The Hunting App Buddy System: Share Nearby Hunting Areas With Friends

6 Minute Read

You've got a hunting area mapped out in your hunting app. How do you share it with your hunting buddies?

The ability to share markers and hunting locations takes your hunt to the next level because you can clue in your hunting buddies (without everyone having to lean over your shoulder to look at your phone screen while in the field).

This means your friends can collaborate with you for scouting, marking deer signs and insights, and working together when in the field so everyone can tag out. Planning your hunt is better with the buddy system!

Let's talk about why you need hunting apps with sharing and offline map capabilities and how HuntWise makes those things happen for you.

Scouting and Hunting is Better With Friends

Troy Boehm loves the HuntWise app's sharing features. His hunting buddies (known as the Bucksquad) use this feature to scout public land and hunt each season.

Here's what Troy has to say:

The ability to share a hunt area on the HuntWise App has helped the Bucksquad scout and hunt public land without all of us needing to scout the same areas. Given how busy life is, it is a real game changer to have multiple areas to hunt from without scouting every single area.

Scouting

We have a handful of public land parcels that we share via a hunting area in the HuntWise hunting app. Anytime one of us goes out scouting, we make sure to add all our pins, notes, and photos to our shared hunt areas.

Because of this feature, with all of us scouting different sections or parcels throughout the year, we have way more areas and marked stands to hunt in during the season. We also coordinate where we are scouting to maximize the amount of land we can cover. This is especially beneficial given how busy life can get in the off-season.

Pin Sharing in the HuntWise App

HuntWise makes it easy to share markers and pins. Some of the top pins we share include:

  • Rubs, scrapes, and bedding areas: We mark and share all major rubs and scrapes and include any notes that may help us for future scouting or hunting. Notes include an approximation of how old the rub is and how old the deer that made the rub is. We also make sure to mark buck bedding areas.

  • Tree stands: Marking trees ideal for hanging a stand lets us know where there is a spot or tree for us to hang a stand in. We also include notes about the surroundings, what type of tree we are marking, which direction the deer are bedding in, and potential deer travel routes.

  • Entry routes: In addition to marking tree stands, we include entry and exit routes to that stand so we know the best way to enter or exit that area.

  • Cameras: We also mark where we drop cams, so if one of us is scouting or hunting an area close to a cam, we can stop in and check to see what's been moving through that area.

The sharing capabilities in HuntWise make it more efficient for scouting and helping each other maximize their time in the field.

Hunting

Troy continues:

During hunting season, we also use our shared hunting areas to coordinate when and where we are going to hunt. This ensures we don't head out to the same stand or same area on the same day or walk through an area someone may be hunting later that week.

Some of us, especially those of us with kids, can only hunt a few times or once a week during the season, so having multiple potential locations to hunt without having to scout all of them drastically increases our chances of having a successful hunt.

Using shared hunt areas and pins, combined with HuntCast, WindCast, and RutCast, allows each of us to maximize our chances and make the most out of every hunt.

How to Share Hunt Areas in HuntWise

Troy shared just a few of the many ways you can have more success in the field while helping your buddies tag out, too. Using HuntWise and the sharing features means you can work smarter (not harder) with your hunting buddies to scout and hunt throughout the season.

So, how can you get a better buddy system going this season?

First things first: You and your friends need HuntWise!

Sharing is available for all subscription plans. However, as Pro or Elite users, you and your buddies gain access to more features, longer forecasting timeframes (up to 15 days for Elite users), and better gear discounts.

So, if improving your hunt is the goal, don't stop at "just" sharing. Use HuntWise to its fullest capabilities to help you scout and plan your hunts. As Troy mentioned, life gets busy — so maximizing your time in the field is crucial for bringing home that big buck this season.

Then, sharing is as easy as:

  • Selecting a parcel in the App or drawing in your own custom hunt area
  • Saving it
  • Then, using the option to "Invite" friends to the same hunt area

The "Invite" feature pops up at the top of your screen when you scroll over the saved hunt area. Then, when your buddies view the shared hunting areas, they'll see the pins, markers, and notes everyone has contributed to the location.

Share Nearby Hunting Areas (and HuntWise) with Your Buddies

Sharing is caring! At least, that's true when you have friends you love to hunt with.

HuntWise makes it easy to scout, share information, and coordinate hunts so everyone has a better chance of tagging out each season. With multiple map layers, the ability to record a path into and out of an area, and mark ideal spots for tree stands, scrapes and rubs, bedding areas, and more, you have a detailed picture of a hunting area before you or your friends head out into the field for a hunt.

This information helps you maximize your time in the field for efficient hunts!

So, if you (or any of your buddies) don't yet have HuntWise, now is the time to download the hunting app and start planning — free — for your first week.
